Australian truck maker moves to Linux

This Information Technology article reports that a bad experience with a closed system (Wang COBOL) has caused Fiat's IVECO truck division to move the whole operation to Linux. Windows 2000 was considered, but discarded because of scalability issues.
O'Reilly Linux conference looking for speakers

O'Reilly announced its Linux Conference, planned for August 21 through 24 in Monterey, CA. It is also calling for invited talks applicants, with submissions due on February 15. The organizers are seeking "presenters that demonstrate the diversity and strength of Linux. [That can show] not just the clever and interesting ways you use Linux, but how your experience and code can help others."
